A class action lawsuit filed by law firm Lipcon, Margulies, & Winkleman on behalf of passengers alleges the cruise line did not do enough to protect customers.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Royal Caribbean over hidden cameras placed in cabin bathrooms by a former employee.

The lawsuit alleges that former worker Arvin Joseph Mirasol took photos of a guest “while undressed and engaging in private activities” during a February 2024 cruise, according to Miami New Times.

The firm behind the lawsuit, Lipcon, Margulies, & Winkleman, shared a photograph which shows a camera Mirasol allegedly hid under a sink inside a state room to secretly record passengers.

Mirasol has since been fired and is serving 30 years in prison.

The lawsuit argues that Royal Caribbean did not do enough to protect passengers. The lawsuit said police found “numerous videos of naked females undressing in the bathroom as well as videos of child pornography.”

The lawsuit also claimed that Mirasol would enter the rooms and hide under the bed to record guests on his phone as they left the shower.

“Who knows how many countless numbers of pornographic images of these unsuspecting passengers will circulate on the internet forever because Royal Caribbean failed to protect their privacy and allowed Mirasol to make these passengers victims,” attorney Michael Winkleman, who is representing the plaintiffs, told the Miami New Times.

The lawsuit focuses on a time frame of December 2023, to February 2024, and claims that up to 960 passengers may have been affected.

In a statement, Royal Carribean said “the safety and privacy” of guests was its “highest priority.”

“We have zero tolerance for this behavior. We immediately reported this case to law enforcement and terminated the crew member. As this is pending litigation, we are unable to comment further at this time,” it said.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and a jury trial.
