September 30, 2011 – Maritime Laywer Charles R. Lipcon, founder of the maritime law firm of Lipcon, Margulies & Winkleman, P.A., received two professional awards this week based on feedback from his peers in the legal community:
- From Super Lawyers, Mr. Lipcon was named one of the “Top Attorneys in Florida” and has received the 2011 Recognized for Excellence Award in the Transportation/Maritime category. Award winners are selected every summer by Super Lawyers, to distinguish “Exceptional lawyers with impressive records of professional achievement & ethical standards.”
- Similarly, Avvo has named Mr. Lipcon an Excellent Rated Attorney for 2011. This award is based on wide recognition from the legal community “for excellent professional conduct and experience”. Seattle-based Avvo.com provides online directories of U.S. licensed lawyers. The listings may also include reviews from clients, disciplinary actions, and peer endorsements.
Although the scoring process used to determine these annual award recipients is not disclosed, fellow attorneys generally agree that it isn’t any one thing but instead a compilation of factors that determine one’s ranking in these award competitions. Years in practice are considered, along with endorsements from other lawyers. Awards for legal work and holding a board position with a State’s Bar Association, for example, are typically also factored into the rankings. Endorsements from clients, however, while great to have, are not components of these peer-based awards.
After learning about his 2011 awards this week, Mr. Lipcon thanked his colleagues for their peer endorsements. “The commitment to excellence that guided me when I started my practice almost 40 years ago is still integral to the work that we do here every day. We owe each & every client the highest caliber of professional services.”
